AWS EC2 Auto Scaling now lets account owners set Launch Before Terminate as the default replacement behaviour across their Auto Scaling groups.
Why it mattersWhen enabled, AWS says it starts a replacement instance and waits for it to pass health checks before ending the old one. The setting covers replacement events including instance refreshes, rebalancing and health-check failures, and can be managed in the console, CLI or SDK. That gives operators a way to reduce the risk of running below capacity during replacements without configuring each group separately. The feature is available in all AWS Regions at no extra cost. Would you make this the default for production fleets, or keep replacement behaviour as a per-group decision?
