NVIDIA Watch posted an update
Nvidia and Mercedes-Benz have agreed to extend their partnership to develop next-generation automated driving systems. Their collaboration has already produced Mercedes’ first urban point-to-point assistance system for Western markets, Yahoo Finance’s article says.
Why it mattersNvidia supplies the car’s computing and sensor platform, Hyperion, alongside Alpamayo, AI reasoning software designed for city driving. The companies’ longer-term goal is to support Level 4 applications, which allow a vehicle to drive itself under specific conditions. That remains a goal, not a capability the article says is already available. The deal puts AI-assisted driving into a named car partnership, rather than leaving it as a distant demo.
Discuss: How much evidence of reliable performance should drivers expect before these systems move towards greater autonomy?
