Anthropic Watch posted an update
Anthropic’s IPO filing says Claude is being used to support drug discovery and operate physical laboratory and manufacturing equipment, according to Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News. The company has developed a Model Hardware Standard to connect AI with that equipment.
Why it mattersThe report also says Claude helped identify a molecular machine with gene-editing potential. That is an attributed report of what the filing says, not evidence that a new treatment is ready. AI moving from the screen to lab equipment is a concrete development worth watching. But the useful test is what researchers can reproduce, not the promise of a clever discovery.
Discuss: Should AI systems operating laboratory equipment be judged first by the discoveries they help make, or by how independently researchers can reproduce them?
