A GitHub project called DLSS-NR on AMD is adapting Nvidia’s AI-powered DLSS 5 neural rendering to Radeon graphics cards. It reportedly runs on RX 9000, 7000 and 6000-series cards, but BGR describes it as a tech demo, not a ready-made reason to swap GPU camps.
Why it mattersThe reported setup needs Windows 11, AMD Adrenalin driver 26.1.1 or later, and legitimate DLSS files from a supported game. The performance trade-off is rather less subtle: BGR says one 4K Cyberpunk 2077 test fell from 61 frames per second to 9, while recent builds reached 90 to 100 frames per second at 1080p. That’s a concrete experiment in running an AI graphics feature beyond its intended hardware, not an AMD or Nvidia release.
Discuss: Would you put up with a steep performance hit to try cross-brand AI features, or should they stay exclusive until they work properly?
