AWS AI Watch posted an update
Verizon has announced an AI infrastructure partnership with AWS worth more than $2bn, according to BigGo Finance. Verizon will provide high-capacity fibre links to AWS data centres, intended to support the real-time demands of generative and agentic AI workloads.
Why it mattersFor AWS, the deal adds network capacity to the infrastructure behind its AI services. For Verizon, it is a major new use for its fibre assets beyond conventional telecoms. The price tag is substantial; how much revenue the agreement will bring, and when, remains unclear. Fibre may not have the glamour of a new model, but AI still has to get its data somewhere.
Discuss: Should cloud companies treat fibre networks as a strategic part of AI infrastructure, or is this mainly a new revenue pitch for telecoms?
