Colare has raised $2.5 million to expand a platform that uses simulated engineering tasks to assess job candidates before they reach interview, SiliconANGLE reports. The company says its AI maps roles to hands-on assessments in areas including computer-aided design, circuit layouts and thermal analysis.
Why it mattersThe platform scores candidates against rubrics built by experienced engineers. Colare says it is already used by organisations from start-ups to large manufacturers, and plans to use the funding to add more specialist assessments and develop its AI models. That is a concrete use of AI in hiring, where polished CVs can tell employers less than a candidate’s ability to do the work. But a simulation score is only as useful as the task and rubric behind it.
Discuss: Should engineering employers trust AI-assisted simulations to screen candidates, or keep them as one part of a human-led process?
