A Seoul contest in December will feature films and videos made with generative AI, with winners eligible for a Silicon Valley final in January. Organisers say the competition will span 12 categories, from animation and documentaries to advertising and music videos.
Why it mattersThe finalists will compete alongside entries from nine other cities, including Los Angeles, Beijing and London, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily, citing Yonhap. A tidy route from local contest to international final, then. But it also gives filmmakers a public stage on which to test what generative AI can do beyond producing another novelty clip.
Discuss: Should AI-made films compete in their own categories, or be judged alongside work made without generative tools?
