China Mobile’s data-centre expansion in Hohhot has passed its completion inspection after 211 days of construction, China Daily reports. Computing, cooling and backup-power equipment was assembled into prefabricated units, then transported to the site to form two server buildings and supporting power facilities.
Why it mattersThe approach let factory work and site preparation happen in parallel, reducing the installation left to do on site. China Daily says the design also allows equipment to be added as demand grows, a practical consideration as AI services need more computing capacity, electricity and cooling.
Discuss: Should data-centre builders prioritise this faster modular approach, or wait for clearer evidence of its costs and operating efficiency?
