Keeping API keys and database passwords out of Git is not enough when a coding agent can read files and deploy an app. Flavio Copes argues developers should also limit the files and tools an agent can access, and keep its build environment away from production credentials.
Why it mattersHis practical suggestions include isolated workspaces, synthetic test data, independent code review, checking build artefacts and using a separate publishing pipeline. A sensible set of locks on the doors, rather than trusting the agent not to wander into the cupboard marked “production”.
Discuss: Which safeguard should be non-negotiable for coding agents: restricted access, isolated environments or independent review?
