The UK government plans to require technology companies including Apple and Google to block children from taking, viewing or sharing nude images on their devices, Bloomberg reports.
Why it mattersThe proposal would put age-based safety controls squarely inside the operating system, rather than leaving the burden to parents or individual apps. The practical question is how the rule would distinguish protection from intrusive device surveillance.
Discuss: Should device makers be required to enforce this kind of protection at system level, and what privacy safeguards would you expect in return?
