The Estonian Association of Media Companies is urging regulators to intervene over Meta terms that could let it access and reuse publishers’ web content. The European Commission says Meta has postponed the terms’ start date to 20 November, according to ERR.
Why it mattersThe association says the terms could permit AI-related use even after Meta removed the word “training”. It argues publishers may have to allow access without separate permission or payment, or risk losing a route to readers. Those are the association’s concerns, not a finding that Meta has already used the material this way. A dispute over the small print, then, with rather large stakes for publishers’ control of their work.
Discuss: Should platforms need explicit permission to use publishers’ content for AI-related purposes, or is access part of doing business online?
