European experts at a Taipei forum have called for closer cooperation with Taiwan on AI and drones, including a proposed route towards certified suppliers and shared testing rules for drone supply chains.

Why it matters

John Hemmings of the Henry Jackson Society said the sides should first agree what a supply chain free of Chinese components means, then identify certified suppliers and set up a joint office to develop reciprocal testing and evaluation protocols. For AI, Vrije Universiteit Brussel’s Antonio Calcara pointed to photonics as a promising area for collaboration. These are proposals from speakers at the forum, not an announced partnership or adopted policy. Focus Taiwan reports that the event was co-organised by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Formosa Club.

Discuss: Should governments set common rules for trusted technology supply chains, or leave that work to companies?
