China’s AI-generated film Sanxingdui: Future Past has struggled to draw a cinema audience, despite a wide release scheduled across more than 10,000 screens, Futurism reports. The film opened on 23 October.
Why it mattersThe account describes the result as a poor first box-office test for a fully AI-generated theatrical film. A large screen count, it turns out, is not the same thing as an audience turning up.
Discuss: Does a disappointing opening for one AI-made film say anything meaningful about audiences’ appetite for the format, or is it too soon to draw that conclusion?
