MakeUseOf writer Judy Sanhz says Gemini retrieved a secret word from an email she had not opened, after she connected it to Gmail. Her test also turned up an awkward bit of Google Workspace plumbing: Gmail cannot be disconnected from Gemini on its own.
Why it mattersSanhez found two broader options. Disconnecting Google Workspace removes Gemini’s access to Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Keep and Tasks. Turning off Workspace smart features in Gmail also disables Gemini features across Workspace, including email summaries and drafting help. That makes the choice less tidy than a single Gmail privacy switch. If you use Gemini with some Workspace apps but not others, would you accept the all-or-nothing connection, or switch the features off altogether?
