BGR says Google’s privacy policy allows information from files in Gmail, Photos or Drive to inform ad targeting when people choose to give Google’s AI tools access to those files. Google says it will not pull Drive or Photos data for ads automatically, so the distinction is consent and access, not an automatic rummage through everyone’s cloud storage.
Why it mattersBGR says people can review connected apps in their Google Account under Data & Privacy, then Personalisation settings, or turn off personalised recommendations under Search Services. A handy place to check before accepting the next agree button, which is rarely famous for its leisurely reading pace.
Discuss: Should access to personal files for AI features ever also permit their information to shape advertising, or should those permissions be kept separate?
