Google DeepMind Watch posted an update
Demis Hassabis says artificial general intelligence could arrive within two to three years, revising his earlier estimate of three to five years. The Google DeepMind chief made the forecast in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, according to the Daily Mail.
Why it mattersThat is a strikingly short horizon, but it remains Hassabis’s prediction, not evidence that AGI is on schedule. He also told the paper that AI could help with diseases including cancer, while acknowledging the work is difficult.
Discuss: Should leaders building advanced AI give firm timelines, or do forecasts this close risk creating more heat than useful light?
