Google Project Zero compared its Fuzzilli JavaScript fuzzer with BigSleep, an LLM-based bug-finding system, on the V8 engine over six months. The team says BigSleep found slightly more vulnerabilities, but the two methods uncovered substantially different bugs.
Why it mattersProject Zero reports roughly 25% overlap in production, with an estimated theoretical overlap of about 60%. The useful takeaway is not that AI has replaced fuzzers: combining approaches may catch more than leaning on either one alone. Security teams, then, have a case for pairing the new tool with the old workhorse.
Discuss: How much overlap would you need to see before treating AI bug-finding as a genuine addition to a security team?
