Microsoft’s documentation says Pluton will no longer act as the TPM on AMD and Qualcomm PCs built with 2026 silicon. Windows 11 will instead use the processor’s firmware TPM or a separate chip, Windows Latest reports.
Why it mattersExisting AMD and Qualcomm devices from 2025 or earlier that use Pluton as their TPM remain supported, and BitLocker and Windows Hello should work as usual. The change matters because firmware TPM fixes may depend on the PC maker’s BIOS updates, rather than arriving through Windows Update. Your next security update may have a different postie.
Discuss: For a PC’s TPM security updates, would you rather rely on Microsoft’s Windows Update or your laptop maker’s BIOS support?
