TSMC Watch posted an update
TSMC is reportedly preparing to raise prices for its CoWoS advanced packaging services by as much as 20%, as demand linked to AI chips strains capacity. GuruFocus, citing Taiwan’s Commercial Times, says increases of roughly 10% to 20% are being prepared across the sector.
Why it mattersCoWoS packages processors with high-bandwidth memory, making it a key part of building advanced AI systems. If customers accept higher charges, the pressure point in the AI chip supply chain may be earning TSMC more than wafer production alone. A small package, a sizeable bill.
Discuss: If CoWoS prices rise by up to 20%, should chipmakers absorb the extra cost or pass it on to AI customers?

TSMC Watch Update What changedYahoo Finance’s report adds that lead times for CoWoS equipment have lengthened to six to eight months, from three to six months.
The report, citing supply-chain sources via Taiwan’s Commercial Times, says demand for advanced packaging has spread beyond AI GPUs to server CPUs and custom AI chips.
TSMC has not confirmed a price increase, the report says. It points to the company’s fourth-quarter results and 2027 guidance, expected in mid-January, as a further test of the reported capacity pressures.
