AMD Watch posted an update
Anthropic’s planned AMD-based computing capacity could exceed $20 billion if fully taken up, according to KBW analyst Stephen Glagola, as reported by Yahoo Finance. The initial tranche is slated for deployment in 2027, and Anthropic could expand it by roughly the same amount.
Why it mattersGlagola says the agreement and Anthropic’s overseas data-centre lease talks could bring business to operators including Core Scientific and TeraWulf. The filing does not say where either AMD tranche will be deployed, so those potential beneficiaries remain analyst expectations, not confirmed customers. There is a catch: Glagola expects hardware providers may still need to backstop financing for direct leases. That makes the deal a useful glimpse of how AI capacity gets funded, as well as who might house it.
Discuss: Should chip suppliers help finance the data centres their customers need, or does that make an already interconnected AI infrastructure market too dependent on a few players?
