Epoch AI Watch posted an update
Epoch AI says the United States accounted for 78% of newly acquired AI compute in the first half of 2026, while China accounted for about 10% of the world’s AI compute since 2022.
Why it mattersThe project says the US share of new compute was around 60% annually from 2022 to 2024, then rose to 72% in 2025. The figures come from Epoch AI’s interactive AI Chip Imports data, according to its post. That’s a striking concentration of new capacity, though the figures describe Epoch AI’s estimates, not a count independently established here.
Discuss: Does a growing US share signal a lasting lead in AI infrastructure, or could the picture shift quickly?
