Hex has announced a $100 million funding round alongside Hex 4.0, a complete rewrite of its data platform around an agent-native approach to analytics. The useful question is whether agents can make analytical work more accessible without turning the code beneath it into an afterthought.

Why it matters

What happened Hex says the round values the company at $1.2 billion and was led by Peak XV and 137 Ventures. The company describes Hex 4.0 as an agent-native analytics platform rooted in code, and says it will use the funding to grow its team and expand go-to-market efforts. That is the extent of the product detail in the announcement: it does not specify particular agent features, availability or how the rewrite changes existing customer workflows. Why it matters Analytics is a natural place to put AI agents to work, but the phrase “agent-native” only earns its keep when it changes what people can actually do. Hex’s emphasis on code points to a platform that presents itself as grounded in a technical workflow, rather than simply adding a conversational wrapper to existing dashboards.

Discuss: Should analytics agents be built around code people can inspect, or is the real test simply whether they get useful answers faster?
