Discord says messages in public channels belonging to servers listed in Server Discovery will become searchable on the web from mid-December.
Why it mattersServer admins and members will be able to opt out, according to TechCrunch. The change could make public conversations easier to find beyond Discord, while giving communities a choice about whether their messages appear in search results. That is a useful shift for anyone posting in a public server: “public” may soon mean more than visible to people already on Discord. The opt-out will matter. Will it give communities enough control, or should web search inclusion be off by default?
Discuss: Should public Discord messages be searchable on the wider web by default, or should communities have to opt in?
