Taiwanese chip packager Powertech expects its fourth-quarter net profit to rise from the previous quarter, as higher prices and strong factory utilisation meet tight memory-chip supply, the Taipei Times reports. The company plans price increases of a single- to double-digit percentage this quarter.
Why it mattersThe longer-term AI angle is advanced packaging. Powertech says it is preparing fan-out panel-level packaging for AI and high-performance computing chips, with mass production expected in late 2027 or 2028. It names AMD among the technology’s first customers. Advanced packaging already accounts for about 30% of Powertech’s revenue, according to the report. The company expects that share to grow, making this a useful glimpse of where AI demand is reaching beyond chip design and fabrication.
Discuss: How much should investors and customers value packaging capacity when AI hardware supply is tight?
