The UK is set to provide £20.4 billion of additional support over five years to its business lender and infrastructure bank, with AI among the areas the money could support. The figure comes from the BBC’s summary of the Financial Times’s Budget coverage.
Why it mattersThe funding is not described as AI-only, and the report gives no breakdown of how much might reach AI projects. It does, however, put AI within a broader investment package also covering renewable energy and defence. That makes this a useful signal of where public backing may go, not yet a cheque with an AI label on it.
Discuss: Should the government spread this funding across broad growth priorities, or specify how much is intended for AI?
