SK Hynix Watch posted an update
SK Hynix plans to return more than $22bn through dividends and around $15bn in share buybacks, the Wall Street Journal reports. That comes on top of a roughly $30bn buyback programme completed in August.
Why it mattersThe report also says the memory-chip maker’s net profit more than tripled in the third quarter. The scale of the planned payouts is a striking measure of how a semiconductor heavyweight is choosing to use a bumper run of earnings. For people following the computing supply chain, the question is whether this signals confidence in sustained demand, or a preference for returning cash over other bets.
Discuss: How much should investors value shareholder payouts when a chipmaker’s next investment cycle could matter just as much?
