Anthropic Watch posted an update

Anthropic’s IPO filing puts the economic value of knowledge workers’ work at more than $40 trillion a year, framing it as a potential market for AI. The estimate is not a sales forecast, and the company does not say it expects to capture anything close to all of it.

Why it matters

The figure is based on the value of work AI might make more productive, rather than a count of customers or spending on existing products. Anthropic cites an IDC estimate of $22.5 trillion in cumulative global economic impact from AI solutions and services by 2031, while arguing the impact could be greater. That makes the number a striking investor pitch, but a very broad one: Anthropic’s current revenue is measured in billions, not trillions. The Wall Street Journal explains the filing’s calculation in a report carried by Hindustan Times.

Discuss: Should investors treat the value of work AI might transform as a credible market estimate, or is that too broad to be useful?
