Watch Desk posted an update
Hertfordshire Police has introduced two dedicated vans for live facial recognition, expanding its use of the technology across the county, the BBC reported on 27 October.
Why it mattersThe cameras compare people’s faces with police watch lists. The force says images of people who do not match are deleted immediately, while trained officers review potential matches. The vans follow a trial that began in Cheshunt last December. A larger fleet means the cameras can be used more flexibly, which makes clear rules and public scrutiny all the more important.
Discuss: Should police publish accuracy and safeguard data whenever they expand facial recognition, or is explaining the watch-list process enough?
