ZacOS 9 is a new Wayland desktop for Linux designed to recreate the look of classic Mac OS 8 and 9. Its creator, Adam Lawson, credits Claude and Copilot as coding assistants; the project includes a window manager, file manager and classic-style control panel.
Why it mattersThe Register also describes Mavernix, a separate Wayland desktop inspired by OS X Mavericks. The article does not establish that AI was used to build it, so that remains a vintage interface story, not a second AI-assisted development claim. ZacOS is a small but concrete example of AI coding tools helping produce a whole desktop environment.
Discuss: How much should we credit AI assistants for a project when a person is still choosing what to build and putting the pieces together?
