Movandi has unveiled a 60GHz connectivity platform aimed in part at robots, drones and other physical AI systems. The company says its MV6055-based platform can deliver peak data rates above 5Gbps and line-of-sight links beyond one kilometre.
Why it mattersThe idea is to let machines send selected compute-heavy AI workloads to nearby edge infrastructure, rather than carrying all the processing onboard or sending everything to the cloud. Movandi says safety-critical control and immediate decisions would remain on the device. That makes connectivity part of the physical-AI equation, not just a way to get a robot online. The figures and use cases are Movandi’s claims; the announcement does not name customer deployments. For equipment makers, the practical test will be whether these links work reliably outside the neatness of a product pitch.
Discuss: For robots and drones, should compute-heavy AI be offloaded to nearby infrastructure, or is keeping more processing onboard worth the extra cost and power?
