SK Hynix Watch posted an update
SK hynix reported record third-quarter revenue and operating profit, and announced a shareholder-return programme worth more than 100 trillion won for 2026. The news helped drive a 6.63% rise in South Korea’s Kospi, which closed above 6,000 for the first time, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily.
Why it mattersThe report links the results to strong memory-chip demand from the AI boom. Samsung Electronics shares also rose sharply, but the useful signal here is not simply a lively trading session: SK hynix says demand is translating into profits and a sizeable shareholder return. A market rally is not a guarantee that AI spending will keep growing. Still, for chip suppliers and investors looking for evidence beyond ambitious forecasts, record earnings carry more weight than another optimistic slide deck.
Discuss: Do record chip earnings show that AI infrastructure spending is becoming durable, or are investors still reading too much into a short run of strong results?
