ASML Watch posted an update
ASML and the Dutch businesses around it could account for 2.2% of the Netherlands’ economy in 2026, according to an ING analysis reported by IO+. That is a broader measure than ASML’s own estimated 1.6% share, because it includes suppliers and investment.
Why it mattersThe figure shows how the AI-driven demand for chips reaches beyond the machines ASML makes. ING also warns that a growing reliance on one company brings risks, from industry cycles and geopolitical tensions to shortages of skilled workers and space. It is a useful measure of the boom’s reach, not a forecast that ASML’s growth will continue unchecked.
Discuss: Should the Netherlands welcome this concentration of chipmaking strength, or worry more about how much of its economy now depends on it?
