Scottish startup Vidai UK says it has launched Stirling-Minimo PII, a 10-million-parameter model designed to identify personal details such as names, addresses and financial account numbers for redaction before data leaves an organisation’s network.
Why it mattersThe company says the roughly 40MB model can run on an ordinary office CPU or edge device, without specialist hardware. That could give organisations a local alternative to sending sensitive text to an external service for screening. Vidai also claims its model matches the accuracy of much larger systems, but the report gives no figures or test details for that comparison. A compact model doing useful privacy work is a more interesting proposition than another cloud dashboard.
Discuss: How much evidence should businesses demand before trusting a small on-device model with sensitive data?
