AI agents working in construction and other physical industries need more than plans and reports: they need information about what is actually happening on site, argues OpenSpace chief executive Jeevan Kalanithi.
Why it mattersHis proposed foundations are reality data, context linking information to place and time, interoperability between systems, and human oversight over automated actions. In plain terms, a camera feed is not much use to an agent unless it can work out where and when it was taken, compare it with the plan and know what to do next. It is a practical argument from a company selling visual intelligence, not proof that these systems already deliver better results. But it puts the data and workflow problem ahead of the usual model-first fanfare.
Discuss: For AI used in physical work, which should companies prioritise first: better data about what is happening on the ground, or stronger rules about what an agent may do with it?
