An engineer used Claude Opus to help design and simulate an analog radio chip, according to a project write-up published by Zero to ASIC Course. The work covered schematics, layout and multi-corner verification, with about 700 prompts along the way.
Why it mattersThe write-up says the AI agent identified sensitivity flaws that would otherwise have caused the radio to miss specifications. That makes this a striking example of AI assisting with hardware design, not just producing code or text. The account is the engineer’s; it is not an independent evaluation of the process.
Discuss: For chip design, would you trust an AI agent that catches important flaws, or should its work remain strictly advisory until independently checked?
