OpenText Watch posted an update
OpenText says one global automotive company archived 16 of the 30 terabytes it had planned to move into SAP S/4HANA, shrinking the data load for its cloud transition. The company’s advice is to decide what to keep before migration, not after go-live.
Why it mattersIts four steps: audit which applications need to stay, agree retention and deletion rules with business and governance teams, archive retained information with its business context, then decommission applications kept only for lookups. OpenText argues that preserving context can also make archived records more useful to future AI systems. That is a vendor’s case for its approach, but the practical point stands: keeping data is not the same as keeping it searchable or usable.
Discuss: When should organisations retire legacy applications rather than keep them running for occasional lookups?
