Amazon now lists 250 million products sold on rival sites through its Shop Direct initiative, about 2.5 times the number it listed in March, The Information reports. The company is also giving those products more prominence with curated style edits and other displays.
Why it mattersThe report frames the expansion as a way to make Amazon shoppers less likely to turn to outside AI assistants that can buy across retailers. It is a concrete move in the contest over where shopping agents send customers, even if the listings alone do not show how shoppers are responding.
Discuss: Should retailers welcome AI shopping agents across the web, or build their own tools to keep customers inside their stores?
