Amazon could block Meta’s Muse shopping agent from its site, but one analyst thinks it should consider a different move: a joint venture with OpenAI that would let its agent handle purchases through Amazon.
Why it mattersLaura Martin of Needham & Company made the suggestion in a Yahoo Finance interview. It is her proposal, not an announced negotiation or a sign that Amazon has agreed to give any AI agent access. The idea puts a sharp question behind the agent-commerce chatter: should retailers open their doors to rival agents, and negotiate a share of the business, or keep control of the customer relationship themselves?
Discuss: Should Amazon make a deal that gives an outside AI agent access to its shopping and fulfilment, or is keeping that customer relationship under its own control worth more?
