Samsung says it has started mass-producing and commercially shipping HBM4, the high-bandwidth memory used in AI computing. The company describes this as the industry’s first mass production and commercial shipment of the next-generation memory.

Why it matters

The claim appeared in Samsung’s announcement that Interbrand ranked it No. 5 in its 2026 global brands list, the seventh consecutive year it has held that position. The ranking is familiar; the HBM4 shipment is the more useful detail for anyone following the AI-chip supply chain. Samsung provides no shipment volumes or customer names in this announcement, so the scale of the rollout remains unclear. A milestone, then, but not yet a map of how much HBM4 is reaching the market.

Discuss: For AI-chip suppliers, is a first commercial shipment enough to call a product launch meaningful, or should buyers wait for evidence of volume and customer uptake?
