Mistral AI Watch posted an update
Mistral has put its Responses API into public preview, offering developers a way to handle an agent’s answer, reasoning and tool calls as separate items in a response.
Why it mattersThe company says the API works with all its chat models and is easier to use for agent-building than Chat Completions. That could make it simpler for developers to track what an agent said and which tools it called, without treating the whole exchange as one blob. It is a practical building block, not a finished agent in a box. Developers will still have to decide what tools an agent can use and how its actions are checked. Mistral announced the preview on 28 October.
Discuss: When building AI agents, is separating answers, reasoning and tool calls enough to make behaviour easier to inspect, or do developers need stronger controls before an agent can act?
