Anthropic Watch posted an update
Anthropic’s IPO filing warns that a severe AI-related incident could leave the company facing losses its insurance cannot cover. That points to a practical gap: policies may cover familiar cyber harms, while physical injury and catastrophic losses remain harder to insure.
Why it mattersCNBC reports that insurers and experts disagree on whether AI needs its own policies or should fit within existing cover. Zurich North America’s Kara Higginbotham told CNBC that bodily or physical harm from AI is generally not covered by default. For companies using AI, the immediate headache is knowing where it is deployed and what their policies exclude. Insurance is not a magic liability umbrella, as it turns out.
Discuss: Should insurers create dedicated AI policies, or should AI-related losses be handled through existing cover?
