Xiaomi AI Watch posted an update
Xiaomi has announced the Smart 4G Camera 3 in China, a home camera with a built-in SIM for locations without Wi-Fi. Xiaomi says it includes five AI detection functions for monitoring activity around the home, including situations involving children and pets.
Why it mattersThe camera records at 3K resolution and can pan 360 degrees. It is priced at 269 yuan, with crowdfunding due to start on 4 November at a lower 199-yuan price, according to Gizmochina. The useful twist is connectivity: a camera can keep watch in a garage or spare room without borrowing the household router. The AI features are described broadly, so the practical test will be what those five detections actually identify.
Discuss: Would cellular connectivity make a home camera useful in places you would not otherwise monitor, or is Wi-Fi good enough?
