Nolan Lawson tested 12 JavaScript frameworks by building the same Pokémon app with Opus 5.5. His results point to a practical wrinkle for developers using coding agents: framework choice can affect not just the code, but the tokens and cost needed to produce it.
Why it mattersLawson found Hono with htmx and Astro came out ahead of heavier single-page frameworks such as Angular on cost, token use and bundle size. It is a useful reminder that “AI-friendly” framework claims deserve a test, not a fan club.
Discuss: Would you choose a lighter framework for an AI coding agent, even if your team already knows a heavier one?
