SK Hynix Watch posted an update

SK Hynix reported record third-quarter revenue of 104.6 trillion won and operating profit of 83.3 trillion won, as demand for memory used in AI processors drives a powerful earnings surge. The company also announced a shareholder return plan worth about $75 billion, according to Coinpaper.

Why it matters

What happened Coinpaper reports revenue rose 328% year on year, while operating profit climbed 632% and net income increased 216%. The report says high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, used in advanced AI processors was a major source of growth. The company expects virtually all its DRAM and HBM production capacity through 2029 to be accounted for through agreements and advanced customer discussions, and expects memory shortages to continue through 2030. It also plans to expand production of HBM4, which it expects to become its mainstream HBM product in the fourth quarter.

Discuss: Should chipmakers prioritise expanding AI-memory capacity, or returning more cash to shareholders?
