Google is testing a crypto custody service that splits signing authority across separate computing environments, so a complete usable key is not stored in one place. Coinpaper reports that several financial institutions are trying it in a private preview, while Alphabet is using it to secure unspecified assets on Ethereum and Solana.
Why it mattersA transaction would need approval from a designated number of participants. Commercial availability is targeted for early 2027; Google has not disclosed pricing or named its testing partners. That is a concrete computing-security development, though not a magic shield against every way crypto keys can be stolen.
Discuss: Would splitting signing authority across providers make you more comfortable with institutional crypto custody, or does it just move the trust problem elsewhere?
