OpenAI Watch posted an update
OpenAI is reportedly planning to buy AI chips from Google, a potential new source of computing capacity for the ChatGPT maker. The report says final terms have not been determined, so this is a possible shift in suppliers, not a signed deal.
Why it mattersMore chip options could help OpenAI secure the computing power needed to train and run its models, while giving Google a chance to sell its accelerators beyond its own services. TradingView’s report says OpenAI would continue buying Nvidia chips too.
Discuss: Would adding Google as a supplier make the AI chip market more competitive, or simply give OpenAI another route to secure scarce capacity?
