Anthropic is moving from mostly renting short-term computing capacity towards a hybrid approach that leases chips directly and uses dedicated facilities, according to an analysis of its IPO filing by Cautious Optimism.
Why it mattersThe analysis says the earlier rental strategy helped Anthropic burn less cash than expected. A move towards dedicated infrastructure could give the AI company more control as it scales, while bringing new costs and commitments. Compute, it turns out, is not just something you order more of.
