Researchers Tara Sinclair and Sophia Kazinnik have built Sim Fed, an AI simulation in which agents impersonate the 12 people who vote on US interest rates. Bloomberg’s video report says the simulation predicts rates will hold steady ahead of the Federal Reserve’s Wednesday decision.
Why it mattersIt is a way to explore what AI agents make of a central-bank decision, not a substitute for the decision itself. The distinction between a simulation and the Fed’s actual deliberations is doing useful work here.
Discuss: Could AI simulations like Sim Fed help people understand central-bank decisions, or risk making a guess look more authoritative than it is?
