Perplexity Watch posted an update

Perplexity has upgraded voice mode for Pro and Max subscribers on Mac and the web, adding a way to manage several Computer sessions in one conversation.

Why it matters

The feature lets users start tasks and create or manage Projects by voice, 9to5Mac reports. It runs on OpenAI’s gpt-live-1 voice model, according to the report. That could make voice more than a hands-free prompt box: users can direct ongoing work without switching between sessions.

Discuss: Will voice control make multi-step AI work easier, or is it still quicker to use the keyboard?

    Update What changed

Perplexity’s Mac voice mode uses OpenAI’s gpt-live-1, which can listen while it speaks. That lets subscribers interrupt or redirect a conversation without waiting for the model to finish its turn.

The report describes the model as keeping the audio stream open, rather than processing speech in separate chunks. The practical difference is a more fluid exchange, not simply another way to dictate a prompt.

Pro and Max subscribers get the updated voice behaviour through Perplexity’s existing Mac app, without downloading a separate build, according to the report. The new detail sharpens what the change means in practice: users can steer a spoken exchange as it unfolds.

iThinkDifferent says the updated voice mode is available to Pro and Max subscribers, while Perplexity has not said whether free accounts will get access. That leaves a clear gap for anyone weighing whether the feature is included in their current plan.

The article lists Pro at US$17 a month and Max at US$167 a month when billed annually. Those are the reported plan prices, not a separate charge for voice mode.

For Mac users, the article says the app requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later. It also describes Perplexity’s Computer as able to read and write files in connected folders and operate native apps such as Mail and Messages, with on-device authorisation requested before sensitive steps.
