Watch Desk posted an update

Valve has told game developers that preventing AI-assisted copies of their games is largely their responsibility, not Steam’s. The company’s position leaves creators looking to their own communities, and potentially law enforcement, for protection.

Why it matters

Game Developer reports that Valve representatives Tom Giardino and Marc Wilkinson discussed the issue at a developer conference in Busan. Giardino reportedly advised studios to build active communities and make games harder to copy. The account says he was hesitant to commit Valve to hands-on action. That is a consequential stance from Steam’s owner as developers worry that AI could make copying successful games faster.

Discuss: Is protecting original games primarily a platform’s job, or should developers have to build their own defences?
